10th Budo Giant Challenge NEW
On October 19th, 2024, the 10th Budo Giant Challenge kicked off with the traditional Kyokushin song and the powerful beats of the Taiko drum, performed by Senpai Raphael Perez, marking the official beginning of the tournament. This event brought together 300 participants of all ages, from children to adults, who competed in both kata and kumite.
Organized by Shihan Hugo Perez and his dedicated team, the tournament served as a memorial to the late Shihan Jacques Sandulescu, the esteemed author of “Donbas” the true story of an escape from the Soviet Union, his true-life story. Competitors from over 30 dojos in the USA and Canada participated, including a team led by Sensei Carlos Vega from Orlando, Florida. The referee team was made up of representatives from various Kyokushin organizations in the region, ensuring the highest standards of officiating.
This 10th edition of the Budo Giant Challenge not only honored the legacy of Shihan Sandulescu but also highlighted the unity and spirit of Kyokushin karate, with participants traveling from all over Canada and the United States. A special congratulations goes to all the competitors for their determination, sportsmanship, and fighting spirit, especially those stepping onto the mats for the first time. We were excited to have witnessed their first steps in this special competition, and we believe it was just the beginning of their journey in the world of Kyokushin karate!
